Introducing Ultra HD — 2K & 4K Playback for the Videos That Deserve It

If you shoot in 2K or 4K, you've probably wished your viewers on big screens could see every bit of that detail. Starting today, they can. Ultra HD is a new add-on that gives your videos 2K and 4K playback — on a per-video basis, so you only pay for the videos that deserve it.

What's changing (and what isn't)

Nothing changes for your existing videos or your plan. Every video on ReedTV still plays in up to 1080p as part of your subscription, exactly as before. Ultra HD is an optional extra: turn it on for a video and we create 2K and 4K versions of it, so viewers on large monitors and TVs get the full resolution you filmed in.

Pricing: pay only for what you turn on

Creating and storing 4K video takes real GPU time and storage, so rather than raise prices for everyone, Ultra HD is priced per video. If you never turn it on, you never pay a cent for it.

Processing
one-time per video
Storage
monthly while on
4K (includes a 2K version)$0.10 / min$0.01 / min
2K$0.05 / min$0.005 / min

For example, a 10-minute 4K video costs $1.00 once, then $0.10 a month while Ultra HD stays on. Turn it off and the storage charge stops from your next billing period.

No surprises. Before anything is charged, you'll see the exact cost for that video and confirm it. You're only charged once processing finishes — if it fails, you pay nothing. Ultra HD charges also count toward your spending cap, and two new cards on your dashboard show exactly what you've used this billing period.

How to turn it on

  1. When you upload: in the Upload Video popup, keep High Speed selected and tick Also create Ultra HD (up to 4K). You'll see the cost before the upload starts.
  2. For a video you've already uploaded: open it from your Videos page and click Turn on Ultra HD… in the Ultra HD card.

The 2K/4K versions are usually ready within a few minutes. For a full walkthrough, see the Ultra HD guide.

Who can use it

Ultra HD lets you offer full-resolution playback without everyone paying for something only some videos need. Give it a try on your best-looking video and let us know what you think.
